The Community for Data Integration is a USGS community of practice about all things having to do with better managing and working with scientific data and information. The community welcomes involvement from anyone with an interest in helping to improve our ability to advance science with better access and usability of data. Please provide ideas here on what you really need to better conduct scientific research and work with data and information.

  1. much better graphing and charting capabilities

    Even the latest version of Office has pretty poor graphing capability. We need more advanced tools.

  2. easy web-interfaces for individual labs to post data and other information

    We need much easier web interfaces for individual labs to post data, methods, information, movies, and any other information produced from our work.

  3. A centralized, fully indexed USGS dataset repository.

    We need somewhere where we can upload/store, markup or catalog, and index USGS datasets. A repository that becomes nationally known as the 'go-to' place to find and find out about USGS datasets.

    We need wireless interfaces and iPads so people can collect data digitally so we don't have to type it into computers and send data to a central server so everyone in the lab has access.

    We need portable field based data stations where we can collect data on ipads and transfer to the station frequently so as to not loose data.
